Seasonal Tips 🍂🌰❄️⛄
Fall & Winter Pest Prevention Tips
Store Food Properly:
As cooler weather approaches, pests like rodents and insects seek warmth and food sources. To deter them, store dry, perishable items in air-tight containers that pests can’t chew through. This simple step helps eliminate potential food sources.
Dispose of Food Waste Promptly:
With more time spent cooking at home, it’s easy for food scraps to accumulate. Make it a habit to take out trash containing food scraps as soon as possible to prevent attracting unwanted pests. This keeps your living space clean and reduces the chance of infestations.
Maintain Clean Surfaces:
Regularly wiping down countertops helps eliminate crumbs and food remnants that attract pests. Aim to clean these surfaces at least once a day, especially after meal prep and eating, to maintain a pest-free environment.
Space Heater Safety Tips
Placement:
Space heaters can provide warmth during chilly months, but their placement is crucial for safety. Always use them on hard, level, nonflammable surfaces, ideally on the floor. Avoid placing them on tables or elevated surfaces where they can easily tip over.
Create a Safety Zone:
Keep a 3-foot clearance around your space heater from children, pets, and flammable items like curtains and blankets. This safety zone helps prevent accidents and reduces the risk of fire hazards.
Direct Plug-In:
For optimal safety, always plug space heaters directly into wall outlets. Avoid using extension cords or power strips, as these can overheat and increase the risk of fire.
Turn Off When Not in Use:
To minimize fire risks, remember to unplug your space heater when you leave the room or when it’s not in use. Never leave it running overnight while you sleep.
Automatic Shut-Off Feature:
Look for heaters with an automatic shut-off feature. This safety mechanism helps prevent overheating and can turn the heater off if it tips over, providing peace of mind during use.
By following these seasonal tips, you can help keep your home safe and comfortable throughout the colder months while minimizing the risk of pests.
